How long does a Commercial EPC take?

The time needed for a Commercial Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) depends on the size and layout of the property. For most small to medium commercial buildings, the on-site survey takes around 30 minutes to 2 hours. After that, the assessor models the building in SBEM software and lodges the certificate. This is usually within one to three working days.

Larger sites or buildings with complex heating, cooling or ventilation systems can take a little longer. The more data the assessor needs to collect, the more time it takes to model the property accurately. Access to plant rooms and floor plans can also speed things up, so it helps to have these ready on the day of the visit.

Once complete, the EPC for your Business is uploaded to the national EPC register and a copy is sent directly to you. Most businesses have their EPC in hand within a few days of the visit. If you’re planning a sale or letting, it’s worth arranging the assessment early so marketing isn’t delayed.
