What happens during a Commercial EPC assessment?

When you book a Commercial Energy Performance Certificate (EPC), an accredited assessor visits your property to collect the information needed for the report. They’ll record details about the building’s construction, insulation, windows, heating, cooling, lighting and ventilation systems. Measurements and photos are taken to confirm key features and floor areas.

The visit is usually straightforward. For small to medium-sized buildings it takes around 30 minutes to two hours, depending on the layout and how easy it is to access plant rooms or technical areas. The data collected is then modelled using SBEM software to calculate an energy rating from A to G. That calculation produces both the certificate and a short recommendations report suggesting potential efficiency improvements.

Once complete, the energy certificate for your business is lodged on the national EPC register and a copy is sent directly to you. The process is designed to be simple, transparent and fully compliant with government standards.
