What is a good Commercial EPC rating?
A Commercial Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rates a building from A to G, with A being the most energy efficient and G the least. In simple terms, a rating of C or above is considered strong, D is average, and E is the minimum acceptable standard for most rented properties under the Minimum Energy Efficiency Standards (MEES) regulations in England and Wales.
Anything below an E rating can make it difficult to lease a building without registered exemptions, so improving your score is often worthwhile. A higher rating usually means lower running costs, better comfort for occupants and a more attractive proposition for tenants or buyers. Even small changes such as upgrading lighting or heating controls can make a noticeable difference.
Commercial EPCs also include a short recommendations report with suggested improvements. Acting on these can help you move up a rating band or two over time.
