When do you need a Commercial EPC?

A Commercial Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) is required whenever a commercial property or unit is sold, rented or newly built. The seller, landlord or developer must make a valid certificate available to potential buyers or tenants as soon as the property is put on the market. Without it, the transaction can’t legally go ahead.

If your building has any changes made to it, you do not need to get a new Commercial EPC. However, if the changes affect how it uses energy, it may be worth updating it anyway to get an accurate score.

The easiest approach is to arrange your EPC for a Commercial Building before advertising begins, so everything is compliant from day one. The certificate lasts ten years and can be reused for future sales or leases within that period.
